Royal Rise Primary

Geography Day

The whole school had a FANTASTIC day celebrating countries around the world.

Year 6 celebrated Romania.  They had a Romanian language lesson from our two experts; located it using Google Earth and atlases and comparing it to the UK; learnt facts about the country; learnt about Romanian music; completed a Romanian traditional dance and did some fun art linked to the country.

Year 5 celebrated New Zealand. They studied the Geography of New Zealand, wrote fact files about the animals who live there, made costumes, learnt the Haka, found out all about New Zealand culture (focusing on the Maoris), found out about the Maori cuisine and learnt to count and greet people in Maori.

Year 4 celebrated Poland.  They learnt about Wieliczka and the history of the salt mines; made Polish flags; learnt about the history of Poland; created traditional art; learnt some Polish words and phrases and found out all about the Polish culture.

Year 3 celebrated Thailand. They made flags and traditional art from the country, learnt about the culture and learnt some Thai words. They learnt all about elephants as they are the sacred animal of Thailand and created mosaics using the colours of the flags.

Year 2 celebrated China.  They practised using chopsticks, learnt Chinese, made Chinese Dragons, located China and the UK on a map and learnt facts about the country. In China, they complete morning exercises in school every day so Year 2 also had a go!

Year 1 celebrated France. They learnt some French (numbers 0 - 10); studied the Geography of the country, including climate and regions; learnt facts about the country and made some flags and traditional French food (croissants and pain au chocolats!)

Year R celebrated Japan.  They tried and made sushi, learnt some facts, looked at traditional dress and learnt some Japanese numbers.

All classes made video presentations about what they had learnt and then filmed them for the rest of the school to watch.

THANK YOU parents and children for a fantastic effort with the children's costumes.  Everyone had a great day learning all about our world!
